Several weeks after launching its new friendship pages, Facebook has added an exciting new feature: the ability to view a summary of each friend’s deepest feelings about the other. The feelings are discovered by an advanced machine learning algorithm that makes use of photos of the friends as well as their posts on one another’s walls.
In its first few days of existence, the feature has already led some Facebook users to shocking revelations. For example, college junior and Facebook user Kevin Jones thought that his crush Sarah probably had feelings for him. However, when he clicked on their friendship page, he was astonished to read that, based on her facial expression in a photo taken of the two and her use of punctuation in a recent wall post, “Sarah actually thinks Kevin is a douche, even though she always acts happy to see him.”
