Hollywood director Justin Lin recently confirmed rumors that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, famous for his work in the films Race to Witch Mountain and Tooth Fairy, will be joining the cast for the fourth installment of the Fast and 5Sure-ious franchise, a saga that follows the high-octane work of Stanford University’s 5Sure golf cart drivers. Johnson, set to a play a terrorist hell-bent on destroying all of Earth, will square off against the eco-friendly-electric-golf-cart-driving protagonists Domenic Sorretto and Ryan O’Connor, played by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
After the critical success of The Fast and the 5Sure-ious, 2 Fast 5Sure-ious, and The Fast and the 5Surious: Escondido Drift, audiences and critics were enthralled to hear that Johnson would be acting alongside Diesel, Walker, and a number of other marginally important characters in the fourth film in the series. “Oh man, remember in the 2nd [film] in that scene where Sorretto was driving down The Row and there was that helicopter shooting missiles at the people on the back of the golf-cart, while the golf-cart driver was swerving to avoid drunk freshmen and bollards? It’ll be pretty tough to one-up that level of action, but I expect The Rock to bring like TEN helicopters or something,” said Roger Taylor, a Professor of Film at Stanford University. “It’ll be fuckin’ sweet,” he added.
Filming will likely begin in 2015, after the University completes construction on the new Diesel-Walker-Arrillaga Memorial Library.
