Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum recently announced his plan to have all American women register their menstrual cycles in a national ovulation database.
The former senator, and prominent opponent of contraception and abortion, has stated that the measures are necessary to keep track of women’s reproductive functions, tracking who gets pregnant, monitoring birth control usage, and the like.
Santorum said of the measures, “A woman’s body is her own property.
Except for her uterus and ovaries. Those belong to God. And, therefore, since the government is an instrument of God, they belong to the government as well.
Actually, when a woman gets married, her body also belongs to her husband. But she’s free to do whatever she wants with her body so long as it doesn’t involve sex for non-reproductive purposes.
