STANFORD, CA – Putting to rest months of uncertainty, the White Plaza traffic circle has built up the confidence to reveal its true orientation. Last Thursday, the area of pavement and landscaping announced that it was, in fact, clockwise. Much of the student body met this news with tacit acceptance, noting that they had suspected the truth for quite a while.

“I couldn’t have done this alone,” the circle told The Flipside in an interview conducted on its surface. “Most people just assumed I was counter-clockwise, but there were a few bikers out there who were willing to get to know my true self a little better, even when it put them at direct risk of a collision.

The circle’s transition was not without hiccups, with much of its daily through-flow still acting as if they should go to the right. Eyewitnesses claim that even by 4:00PM, some bikers continued to go counter-clockwise, despite repeated insistence on the part of the circle and more progressive students.

“I don’t care what the circle says” said one student who chose not to be identified. “I refuse to accept that this is the correct way.

It’s just not natural.”

Despite ingrained bias such as this, the circle’s outlook remains largely positive. “Sure, it hurts that some people can’t accept me for who I am, but it doesn’t help to get angry about it,” the circle shrugged. “All we can do is speak honestly with one another, be true to ourselves and to those we care about, and one day we can live in a world where people ask before painting false arrows all over your body.”
