Faced with perhaps his toughest challenge yet, Floyd Mayweather dug down deep Saturday at the MGM Grand to maintain his unblemished record and take down Manny Pacquiao on points. Mayweather’s camp indicated that Money was forced to dig into his deep bag of tricks in order to pull off the victory and use an unusual tactic; imagining Pacquiao to be the mother of his children, Josie Harris, so that he could properly channel the requisite anger into his fists.
Mayweather, who has been arrested or cited for seven separate physical assaults against women over five years, was elated, revealing that this strategy was planned as soon as the mega-fight was originally announced. “What many people don’t know,” said Mayweather, “is that while I am undefeated against professional welterweight boxers, I am even more undefeated against women less than half my weight and size. In order to build the confidence I needed, I needed to believe that Manny was a powerless, defenseless woman who could do nothing to prevent the flurry of punches I was raining down.
”
Another key facet of Mayweather’s game plan was his use of his vast amount of experience. The light-on-his-feet Money constantly trash talked Pacquiao in the lead-up to the fight, building off his time spent telling his 10 and 9 year old children that he would, “beat their asses if they left the house or called the police” about their mother’s assault.
Luckily, the combination of these two crucial decisions was enough to push Mayweather past the dangerous Pacquiao.
After the fight, Mayweather will look to spend a purported $180 million dollar purse. It could not have gone to a better man.
